House in the Woods Concerts
Here’s info about our last House Concert.
Barry and Holly Tashian, with Ross Sermons
Thursday, August 4, 2011, 7 p.m.
Barry and Holly Tashian are a country/bluegrass duo from Nashville. They played here two years ago and we love their tight harmonies and great lyrics. They have toured internationally and have made numerous appearances on The Grand Ol’ Opry, A Prairie Home Companion, E-Town, World Café and BBC Radio. They have several albums, and many bluegrass artists have recorded their songs. The Tashian’s album, “Straw into Gold” received the Indie Award for Country Album of the Year, 1994.
They’ll be joined by bass player Ross Sermons, who is an excellent musician as well, easily playing blues, country, folk and Americana. He has a new album called “King’s Pool Room,” so we will surely hear some great tunes from that.
No reservations are required for this house concert. There will also be no set ticket price, but there will be a suggested donation of $10, with all the proceeds going to the musicians. We also ask that you bring a small snack to share, if you’re able. We’ll provide tea and lemonade, ice, and coffee. If you want something else to drink, please bring it along.
If you need directions, please email us at info (at) lizandtim.org or call 865-494-0420.
See you in the woods on August 4!

About Dale and Carolyn:
Since graduating from Grinnell College in Iowa, Dale Mackey has been writing plays, poetry, and short stories in addition to teaching creative writing and journaling classes in prisons, jails, and women’s shelters. She moved to Knoxville in 2008 and is now the Youth Program Coordinator for Community Television of Knoxville and serves on the Board for the Knoxville Writers’ Guild. She also moonlights as an artist, actress, amateur chef, and ukulele player. She is the co-founder of Artistic License, an effort to foster collaboration between creative people in and beyond Knoxville.
Carolyn Scarbrough has published in Gulf Coast, Poet Lore, Sundog, Tar River Poetry, Conduit, Connecticut River Review, High Desert Journal, Minnesota Review, the Southeast Review, and other journals. She has an MFA from the Bennington College Writing Seminars. She works as a pediatric ICU nurse, writing workshop instructor, and mom to five kids, two dogs, and the cat. Basically, she says, she writes despite all the reasons to not write, much like a willful child!
