PRESS RELEASE FOR LIZ&TIM NEW RECORDING:

Appalachian musical duo Liz&Tim celebrate their 20th year of performing together with the release of “Here We Go,” a collection of traditional and contemporary folk songs.Liz McGeachy and Tim Marema will introduce the new recording at a CD-release concert and party at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 9, at Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church, 1500 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, Tenn. The event is free and open to the public.

Marema and McGeachy emphasize vocal harmonies and unique arrangements of traditional Appalachian music. They perform regularly at regional festivals and events and were voted Best Traditional Music Group by the readers of the Oak Ridge Observer in 2007.

“Music has been a big part of our lives together for the past 20 years,” Marema said. “This new recording captures where we have been with our singing and perhaps points to where we might head in the future.”

The 12-song CD includes the couple’s own arrangements of standard traditional material such as “Black Is the Color,” “Pretty Polly” and “The Water Is Wide.” “We love to take those old songs and sing them in a way that helps folks hear them in a whole new way,” McGeachy said.

The recording also has classic country songs like “Ring of Fire” and “A Satisfied Mind” and two of the couple’s own compositions.

The duo’s new CD features performances by Don Wood of the Tennessee Shieks, Kathleen McGregor Williams of the Hominy Mommas and Derryl Harper of Oak Ridge. The duo’s children, Walker Marema and Graham Marema, round out the supporting musicians.

Samples of the recording are available on the duo’s website, www.lizandtim.org.
